There are times when choosing a villa in Phuket comes down to three things: location, location, location. Some visitors may want a villa with a great view of Phuket’s sunsets while others prefer a panoramic view of the neighboring islands. Then there’s the proximity to attractions such as restaurants, nightlife, marinas, and tourist destinations.

While villas can be found on every coast of Phuket, most luxury private villas are on the opposite east and west coasts. Both coasts are home to exclusive communities as well as access to major tourist attractions and highways that can take visitors from one place to another. Here’s an examination of the best that each coast has to offer for Phuket visitors.

East Coast: Sunrises, Island Views, and Exclusivity

Notable villas: Amaravida (Cape Yamu), Eugenia (Cape Panwa), Leelawadee (Ao Po)

The eastern coast of Phuket is an ideal place to enjoy breathtaking views of the neighboring islands from the verandas, windows, and pool areas. The exclusive Cape Yamu estate is a prime example of how properties on the east coast of Phuket can encompass luxury as well as security.

Apart from the estates of Cape Yamu and Cape Panwa, development on Phuket’s east coast has yet to grow, which is good news for guests who crave privacy. Depending on the orientation of the villa, it’s still possible to catch a sunset, but more than likely guests will catch an amazing sunrise from the living area or the outdoor deck.

Among the attractions that can be found near the east coast are Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, Wat Chalong (Chaithararam Temple), and Royal Phuket Marina. Dining options include La Sirena at COMO Yamu Point and Paeng Prai at Pa Klok, while the floating beach club Hype Boat Club holds its perch near the coastline as well.

West Coast: Where Action Meets the Oceanfront

Notable villas: The Aquila Villa (Millionaire’s Mile), Saengootsa (Samsara), Zai (Kata)

On the western coast of Phuket stands the famous Millionaire’s Mile, which stretches along the coast over Kamala Beach. Rumor has it that the first million-dollar estate in Phuket was built in the area, and it’s easy to see why many high-net-worth individuals buy property here: not just for privacy, but for an unobstructed view of the sunset over the Andaman Sea.

Apart from Kamala, the beaches of Karon, Kata, and Patong beckon with options for aquatic activities in the daytime and entertainment at night. Frequent visitors to Phuket often cite the west coast as the “family friendly” part of the island, especially when it comes to activities such as snorkeling along the coast.

The west coast is also home to Phuket International Airport and nearby Sirinat National Park, where guests can explore native forests as well as beachside marine life. Restaurants on the western part of the island include Beach Restaurant at The Surin and Acqua in Kathu. In addition, Café del Mar Beach Club adds glamour to the coast.

Which Coast is The Best Coast?

Before choosing the best coast for booking a private villa, there are still a few things to consider, ensuring not just panoramic views but overall comfort as well as security.

For one thing, sunset and sunrise views always depend on the property’s orientation, so there may be a few times during the year when a desired view might be unavailable. Likewise, the orientation of the villa in relation to the sun may also affect the exposure of bedroom windows to light and heat during sunnier months.

Guests who need assurance on privacy should also consider access to main roads as well as the presence of estate security.  This will come in handy for both emergencies and other instances where guests will need to be driven to other areas of the island.

There are also times when guests do not even need to drive out to other beaches or outside facilities on the island to enjoy fun activities. Some beachfront villas, regardless of the coast, may have equipment such as kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and even snorkeling gear for aquatic exploration.
